Description/Background | Transducin, also known as Gt, is a heterotrimeric guanine nucleotide-binding protein with three polypeptide chains: alpha, beta, and gamma. Gt is expressed in rods and cones of retinal photoreceptors. Transducin alpha-subunits are different in rods and cones, being encoded by different genes, GNAT1 in rods and GNAT2 in cones respectively. GNAT2 plays an important role in the light-signalling pathway in the retinal cone cells and also associates with synchronization of circadian rhythm in vertebrates including Zebrafish and Xenopus, as well as mouse and human. |
